Group Name: JUDAS
Subject: Images of the Lost Disciple
Join author, Kim Paffenroth, in a discussion of his new book, "Judas: Images of
the Lost Disciple" in this meeting, March 4-28. This meeting is the first in a
series of partnerships between PresbyNet/Ecunet and Presbyterian Publishing
Company (PPC), that will bring authors and book discussions together over the
next several months. Here is PPC's description of the first book:"Judas: Images
of the Lost Disciple traces the development of the stories about the most famous
traitor in the history of Western Civilization. Its purpose is not to find the
Judas of history, but rather to provide readers with a map or family tree that
shows the genetic similarities and connections between generations of Judas'
story. Judas has been portrayed as an effete intellectual, a jealous lover, a
greedy scoundrel, a misguided patriot, a doomed hero, a man destroyed by
despair, or God's special, misunderstood messenger and agent. Judas means as
many different things to us as does Jesus or God. The enigma of Judas' story in
the Gospels left later literature and legend with a creative challenge they
richly answered, and which is presented here: to write the real story of the
worst villain of all time."To be ready for the discussion in March, when the
author will join us, you will want to purchase the book and begin reading now.
To purchase the book, you can visit http://www.pcusa.org/marketplace and do a
search on the catalog for the word JUDAS.Initial notes will consist of a plan
for the discussion and introductory comments from the facilitator.Future books
include: The Faith of Fifty Million (a book about Baseball) April P.S. God,
Can You Fly? (a book about the prayers of children) May Watching What We
Watch (a book about media literacy) June The Gospel according to "The
Simpsons" & study guide - August
